The Iowa Children’s Museum (The ICM) is dedicated to educating children and strengthening families in a dynamic learning environment.  Playing to learn at The ICM supplements area school curricula and reflects National Education Standards in an environment that stimulates visitors of all ages to become life-long learners.  In a world where the stresses of daily living are high and the expectations of children are demanding, the educational and social value of the informal learning opportunities provided by The ICM are increasingly important to healthy child development.

The Museum is a unique family attraction in Iowa and recognized as a leader in the field of informal learning through its innovative approach to providing hands-on exhibits and programs.  The Museum successfully serves over 170,000 visitors annually while operating at zero debt.  With an annual visitation that has more than doubled in the past five years, The Iowa Children’s Museum is one of the largest cultural attractions in Iowa.  The ICM opened at the Coral Ridge Mall in 1999 offering interactive exhibits focused on science and health, math, social studies, art, literacy, and dramatic play in a 28,000 square foot informal learning environment.  Through diverse programs and dynamic exhibits, the Museum has become a treasured part of the community and an important educational resource for Iowa families, as well as a vibrant cultural attraction and vital element in the Iowa economy.
